"The Church" discussion notes

Our morning services in early summer 2007 followed the theme of "The Church".

In Palestine, apparently, shepherds lead their sheep. They call to them and the sheep follow. Imagine the scene. The chief shepherd is out ahead. He turns and calls for the sheep to follow. But the assistant shepherds don’t hear. They are too busy arguing. “What is the appropriate way for shepherds to dress?”, “who’s the most important assistant shepherd?”, “what order should they walk in?”. And even if they could hear, they’d never get the sheep to move because the lambs are starting a mutiny. They think that the flock’s facing in the wrong direction; the sheep have lost the plot. They’re even ganging up on some of the older sheep. And the sheep are no better, some of them have fallen out, and aren’t speaking to each other, and meantime the rams are fighting about who’s the strongest! And what’s the most effective type of sheep dip!

And all this time, the chief shepherd stands ahead, on the horizon, calling ‘come on, follow me’!
