January 2010 - The Journey of Faith We are going to take a look at the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134), which pilgrims to Jerusalem in Old Testament times, used to sing repeatedly as they made that journey, many of them three times a year (for the festivals of Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles) to offer worship at the Temple. The journey was ‘up’, because Jerusalem at over 2,500 feet, is higher than all the immediate surrounding land, but also because the journey became a ‘spiritual metaphor’ for pilgrims, as they assessed the place the Lord had in their lives, and refocused their priorities as they travelled, on things above and beyond this world. | |||||||||
