Bible passages: Read Revelation 3:14-22

On Sunday it was suggested that verses 14-22 show Jesus telling the Laodicean church that they are useless (they are like impure water which makes him sick). Their predicament has arisen because they have become proud and self-sufficient. The Laodiceans think that they have everything they need.

(1) What kind of things or issues cause us to be proud or self-sufficient? (e.g. are we relying on our wealth, health, theology, goodness etc?)

(2) How does Jesus challenge the Laodiceans? And what is his solution for them?

(3) Often we tend to think of increasing independence as a sign of maturity. Is it the same with spiritual maturity? If not, how might dependence upon God be an indication of spiritual maturity?

(4) What would you say are the signs of spiritual maturity?

(5) Is our age or the length of time we have been a Christian a sign that we are spiritually mature?

(6) Christ calls us to be like children in our faith (Mark 10:13-16), but does this mean our faith should be childish?
